Gavaskar, where's your vitriol?

By John Cheeran
That convincing win at Sabina Park has slienced the guns of Sunil Gavaskar and such worthies as former coach Madan Lal who has been employed by a desperate channell as an analyst.
Gavaskar, a strong sympathiser with disgraced Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, has relentlessly attacked Rahul Dravid and Greg Chappell through his syndicated column, fortunately carried only in the north Indian newspaper Hindustan Times.
Gavaskar, never a brave captain, but a brave opener for India, poured poison against Indian team during the course of the Caribbean tour. Now that India wrapped up the series in West Indies, a feat he or Ganguly could only dream of, Gavaskar is lost for words.
It was Kapil Dev, who it was portrayed as an antithesis to everything Gavaskar stood for during their playing days, who rejoiced in India's historic win.
"Winning is beautiful," he has said. "The boys have finally tastedthe feeling of winning abroad. I am very happy."
Another significant comment has come form Former Test captain Ajit Wadekar.
"It was the captain who led from the front," said Wadekar, who led the team on their previous series victory in the Caribbean in 1971. "It was his efforts, he shouldered the responsibilityand pushed the boys," Wadekar added.
Wadekar put the victory in perspective against a West Indies side who have struggled in the last few years and barely staved off defeat in the first two of the three drawn tests. "Looking at the opposition we should have won one or two more tests," he said. "We looked like a team in this test and played as a unit."
It is also interesting to note that Kapil was among the former players who criticised the exclusion of young all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who played only one Test after struggling in the one-dayers, and Harbhajan, who came in for the final two tests.
