Salem Division: Kerala MPs tilting at wind mills

By John Cheeran
Last week MPs from Kerala created a ruckus in Parliament peeved at the creation Salem Railway Division. Their protest centered on the fact that large chunks of Palakkad Division were lopped off to create the Salem Division for the neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu, who are demanding the new division, had their arguments based on the geographical reality that the existing Palakkad division largely runs through that state. A fair argument, indeed.
So why were Kerala’s MPs going wild when there was hardly anything to cry about?
In a federal structure what happens if a new Railway Division has been created? Are these MPs are championing the cause of some of the bureaucrats in the existing Palakkad Division? There no job losses, no trouble to passengers, so what’s the big fuss about?
As far as I know not a single Kerala railway passenger will be adversely affected by the creation of the new Salem Division. All trains that come to Kerala will still come, observing the same schedule, carrying the same passengers. There are no changes at the boarding and alighting points.
The quality of the service will be the same. So why Kerala’s MPs, mainly belonging to the CPI (M) fold, were hopping mad at the Parliament Hall?
And mind you Palakkad Division is the route through which millions of Malayalis pass through to earn their bread in such far away places as New Delhi, Dispur and Shillong. And Chennai too.
Did anyone ask these railway commuters what’s their opinion on the Salem Division issue?
No. Not the MPs or the television channels and the newspapers in Kerala.Long live these divisions, long live India.

If its federal structure is it fare to tell everything in our territory is ours?

Then its fine. I respect the argument and am asking to apply the same logic in the formation of a new Kerala based Zone.

I respect the same and am asking to apply the same logic in the water we are sharing with TN from Siruvani, Parambikkulam and Mullapperiyar..

No body is against Salem Division. We are fighting against the Unscientific bifurcation of Palghat. Take portions from Bangalore, Madurai, Trichy, Madras and Palghat and form the division. Not at the cost of a single division.

If you didnt know, Trivandrum division still has large areas of TN under it and nobody is objecting to that. Large areas of northen TN have been given away to South Western Railway under the pretext that they were part of Bangalore div. Also entire Kerala is under Trivandrum or Palakkad division, not an inch in a division whose hq is in TN.So before accusing TN you shud look into your own backyard. If you really apply your mind you wud realise half of TN is under divisions whose hq is not in TN Just proves TN has always been discriminated against. Coming to Salem div you shud be happy TN is not demanding that parts of Kerala to be included in it in lieu of Trivandrum div having parts of TN.
If you still insist on a Kerala Zone then you can very well have it after having parting with all areas of TN

The best way to teach the Tamil bastards would be to stop giving water from Mullaperiyar and Siruvani. Lets see after that what happens, even if it means some hardship for Mallu's in TamilNadu. Note that there are enough Tamil Coolies in Kerala

The rowdies keep on blocking rails as if it is their house property

Don't use these dirty words, you need to think about certain facts,
1. Mullaperiyar is build by the tamil people by their own fund and man power.
2. Most of the mallu's working in coimbatore or in chennai(IT) and running their business(Tea shops). Tamil peple are not chasing them, they are helping them.
3. Since Kanyakumari and Tirunel veli districts belong to Trivandrum railway division, there is no progress in that sector in terms of Railway development activities.
4. If you people are really very specific about the water that originated in kerala, let the keralites living in Tamilnadu bring water from kerala for their daily usage.
5. In chennai district Onam is anounced as local holiday, will it possible to announce Pongal as local holiday in Trivandrum district as so much tamils living there.
6. See when this Malayalam a new language formed, well before that whats the communication language in that region?
7. Be open your mind broad to grow, dont be narrow minded to narrow your growth.

For you information Mullaperiyar is not built TamilNadu it was built by the British...so get your facts right first ..., second TamilNadu hasn't even properly given the rent. Be magnanimous we give more water to TamilNadu than the number of Mallus staying in Kerala (Siruvan, Bhavani, Parambikulam and Mullaperiyar)

Second taking that argument, Tamils should take same amount of water to Karnataka, because Bangalore is full of Tamil Coolies.

So what if the language in Kerala was Tamil 500 years back, we felt it stinks and threw it away ...and got a better language ....hehe you chauvnistic pig....
