India reach tipping point in West Indies

By John Cheeran
With two more days remaining in the first Test, India is still with a chance to redeem itself as a playing unit. Indian batting has showed signs of awakening with top order coming good in the second innings at Antigua.
There is, however, more work need to be done. Skipper Rahul Dravid has to ensure that India bats through on the fourth day so that Indian bowlers can attack West Indies with enough runs on the board.
For that to happen opener Wasim Jaffer should play more positively. He has scored his second Test century and made amends for his failure in the first innings.
Jaffer should play his strokes giving Dravid enough time to shift his batting gears.
It is also quite important that Dravid does not lose his wicket early. In basic terms he should crack a hundred to infuse life into the struggling Indian campaign.
The fatal flaw with Indian batsmen still continues.
Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman, both comfortable against the West Indies bowling, however failed to put the attack to the sword in the second innings.
Now India’s strategy should be two-fold.
Dravid and Jaffer should occupy the crease but they should also show the urgency to score runs quickly which would enable India to go for an improbable win.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni could be the catalyst for this batting experiment.
