Mafia of seniors bane of Indian cricket

The selection of the Indian team is sometimes dictated by commercial interests, Greg Chappell has said in his report to the BCCI, according to NDTV.
The channel said yesterday that it was in possession of the report submitted by Chappell who quit as the national cricket coach.
"The eleven players are also dictated by commercial interest sometimes," the channel said quoting from Chappell's report. Chappell had not targeted any specific player in the report but spoke about "a coterie of senior players as a whole who were having a negative impact on the team."
They specifically throw their weight in toss and batting order decisions, the channel said. The report also said that there should be a benchmark for expected level of fitness. Lack of discipline and fitness issues should bestrongly dealt with because players tend to take them lightly, it said.
Chappell also said focus should be on younger and fitter players in the team and create a pool of talent.
