By John Cheeran
There were many writers who defended former Indian coach John Wright when he came out with his book Indian Summers.
I had rated John Wright a man without backbone.
And his book proved just that. A coward who could not speak his mind when he was supposed to do just that while handling the Indian team. Recently during a discussion organised by Cricinfo, the panelists were asked to choose between Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest batsman.
And what do you expect the former Indian cricket team coach to do?
When Sanjay Manjrekar asked the question Wright said he is not going to pick one of the two as the greatest. This reveals the Kiwi's character.
He does not have the balls to speak the truth. He does not have the courage to say Brian Lara is better than Tendulkar.
Is such a man capable of looking the star Indian cricketers in their eyes and tell them to shape up?
The most interesting part was that rest of the panelists -- Ian Chappell, Tony Greig and Ravi Shastri -- voted for Lara. Now you can imagine how servile Wright would have been when he was with the Indian team.
Not at all the right choice for Indian cricket.

Again I ask, have you read John Wright's Indian Summers? Or you persist to have a prejudicial opinion based on newspaper articles that are bent on writing scoops.
After every six months the pendulum shifts from Lara to Tendulkar..
One simply outclasses the other and most people would agree that the comparison between two players can only be correctly made at the end of each one's career.
Now that Lara is in the form of his life and Tendulkar has just returned from injury.. Why not give him time to come unto his own??
Why this biased opinion Mr Cheeran? Why?
If John Wright will not answer now.. he will have an opinion at the end of both the players' careers.
One more question, having not read the book, having not been in the dressing room, how can you claim that he was not courageous enough to deal with the Indian players?
The very same coach who brought such important changes into the team namely FITNESS.
He stressed on analyzing the oppositions game with the help of technology.
And now Indian cricket cannot do without their analyst, RAMKI.
Indian Cricket did not believe in fitness before he arrived!
And now you call him a coward.
You denounce him.
The coach under whom we became joint-Champions trophy winners.
The very same coach who took us to Pakistan and helped us overcome them in both forms.
The very same coach who was present when we beat Australia in Australia.
The very same coach who guided us to the World Cup final.
The
This is not cowardice, this is foresight.
Can you write off Tendulkar from htting back?
Can you write off the 18 year old backbone of Indian Cricket.
If so, do it at your own peril.
